Lake Merritt

Lake Merritt is famous for being the United States’ first wildlife refuge. It originally served as an extended wetland pool stretching out from the bay, where the Ohlone Indians hunted and fished in modern day Oakland.

Living next to Lake Merritt is a special privilege. Some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world are reflected in its glassy surface, dotted by birds and crew boats swimming across, creating trails, cutting through the infinite colors of the sky.
